Amethyst is a variety of Quartz, recognised for its beautiful range of violet hues from pale lavender to deep purple. It forms over hundreds to thousands of years in rock cavities and fissures, where silica-rich fluids containing trace amounts of iron slowly crystallise. Its purple colour develops through the interaction of iron within the crystal and natural gamma radiation during its formation. Because each Amethyst has its own unique colour, composition and character, we individually assess every crystal to capture what makes it special.
