Smoky Quartz from Vietnam

Vietnam is known for producing distinctive smoky quartz crystals, particularly from the Lâm Đồng Province in the country's Central Highlands. These crystals are often found alongside minerals such as schorl (black tourmaline), topaz, aquamarine, and feldspar, reflecting the mineral-rich geological environments in which they formed.

Smoky quartz is a natural variety of quartz coloured by exposure to natural radiation over long periods of time. This process alters trace elements within the crystal structure, producing the characteristic smoky brown to dark grey colouration.

Many smoky quartz crystals form within pockets and cavities in igneous rocks and pegmatites, where they have space to develop well-defined crystal faces and transparent interiors. Vietnamese specimens are particularly appreciated by collectors for their clarity, lustre, and attractive crystal habits.
