What is Seraphinite?

Seraphinite is not a separate mineral species. It is a gem-quality variety of the mineral Clinochlore, which belongs to the chlorite group of minerals. Clinochlore is a hydrous magnesium-iron aluminium silicate. Variations in its iron content contribute to its rich green colour.

If you look closely at a polished Seraphinite under bright light, the silver feathers can appear to move as you tilt the stone. This optical effect is caused by thousands of microscopic fibrous crystals reflecting light in different directions, creating a living, almost holographic appearance.
