What is Blooshot Iolite?

Bloodshot Iolite, also known as Iolite Sunstones are relatively uncommon crystals, usually found in India. The glitter effect is due to inclusion of hematite platelets.

To create the bloodshot appearance, the crystal must contain enough red hematite or iron-oxide inclusions to be visually striking while still allowing the blue-violet iolite to remain visible. That combination doesn't occur in most iolite.
