How to Use Crystals & Sound for Physical and Emotional Healing
A practical guide to using crystals and sound frequencies to support nervous system regulation, emotional release, and physical healing.
After many years of experimenting with effective yet simple ways to use crystals for healing, I found crystals in combination with sound to be effective. A few years ago, I developed chronic pain in my shoulder that gradually spread to other parts of my body, such as my right hip and left elbow. Despite multiple consultations, doctors were unable to diagnose the cause or offer lasting relief. Living with ongoing pain became the catalyst that led me into deeper exploration of healing, and ultimately to what I do now.
Nervous System Healing and Why It Matters
Whether an imbalance manifests physically, mentally, or emotionally, I have found the nervous system to be the central key to healing. True healing begins by calming the sympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for the fight-or-flight response — while gently activating the parasympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the rest-and-digest state.
Over time, chronic stress, fear, worry, and guilt create ongoing tension within the body. The constant release of stress hormones and survival-based signalling can gradually contribute to imbalance and, eventually, disease. Because of this, one of the most important aspects of healing is learning to calm, regulate, and recalibrate the nervous system.
This can be supported through practices such as vagus nerve stimulation, yin yoga, breathwork, and nervous system reset exercises. Through personal experimentation with tuning forks and crystals, I also discovered that sound can be incredibly effective in helping the nervous system relax, regulate, and return to balance.
In this blog, I share the methods and practices that have personally helped me.
So how can crystals and sound be used for physical and emotional healing?
How I Discovered Sound Healing with Crystals
For a long time, I used crystals and sound primarily for meditation and intention setting. That changed when I happened to come across Angel Tuning Forks—specifically 4096 Hz, 4160 Hz, and 4225 Hz.
Out of curiosity, I held a crystal point near my shoulder and gently struck the tuning fork. After a few attempts, I felt my body physically relax. I could sense energy moving through my system, the discomfort in my shoulder softening, and other areas of my body beginning to release—particularly around regions where the vagus nerve branches, which is interestingly where major chakra points are traditionally located.
The difference I felt in my body the next morning was immense, and I was genuinely amazed. My shoulder felt so much better than it had at any point since the onset of my chronic pain. I needed to understand what I had done and how it worked, so I spent many weeks experimenting on my own body to figure it all out.
How to Use Tuning Forks for Relaxation
After working with the Angel Tuners, I began experimenting with other tuning forks alongside crystals. The forks I currently use are 174hz, 528hz, 256hz, 384hz (all unweighted), and a 93.96hz weighted fork.
Personally, I found these frequencies less effective for physical healing when compared to the Angel Tuning Forks. They are also not very effective to use with crystals compared to the Angel Tuners. Perhaps crystals require the very high frequence of the Angel Tuners to be effective. However, I did notice that these other tuning forks are quite effective for calming and relaxing the body and mind. Because of this, I now use them as a preparation step before working with crystals and the Angel Tuners, helping bring my body into a more receptive and regulated state for healing.
To use them, I place the end of the tuning fork directly onto my main chakra points and strike the fork. I repeat this process as many times as needed until I feel calm, grounded, and relaxed.
Through experimentation, I found that different frequencies create different effects for me personally:
- 174hz — deeply calming and supportive for sleep
- 528hz — uplifting and supportive for a positive mood
- 256hz & 384hz — calming while also helping with focus and mental clarity
The 93.96hz weighted fork did not resonate with me as strongly in its original form. I eventually removed the weights so I could hear more of the sound and feel more of the sound vibration directly. Surprisingly, this worked much better for me personally than the weighted version. I’m not entirely sure why, but the unweighted version helps bring me into a deep meditative state very quickly.

Step-by-Step Crystal & Sound Healing Method
I prefer to do crystal and sound healing before bed, but any time of day is suitable.
1. Choose your crystal
Select a crystal that feels appropriate for your current state. I usually begin with stones that release stagnant energy, calm the nervous system, or carry a loving, soothing quality. If it feels right, I may later work with a crystal that is more energising or high-vibrational. I find crystal points or crystal skulls work best.
2. Prepare the Crystal for Healing
Connect with the crystal through meditation, which I outline in a separate blog. I refer to this process as activating the crystal.
This can be as simple as holding the crystal in your hand, closing your eyes, and breathing deeply and comfortably while gently focusing your awareness on the crystal. During this time, you may also hold an intention, such as “healing this part of the body,” or any intention that feels appropriate for your healing.
If the crystal has already been activated from a previous session, around 10 slow, relaxed breaths while holding it is usually sufficient.

3. Let the Body Guide the Healing
With the crystal in hand (ensuring the centre of your palm is touching it), notice whether your hands or the crystal guide you toward an area that needs support. You may feel a magnetic pull or a very subtle resistance as if you have to move against an electromagnetic cloud (energetic field).
If you don’t feel this, focus instead on the main chakra areas: the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, and throat (thymus area For the root chakra, I find it effective to position the crystal just above the genital area, between the hip joints.
I’ve also found that gradually moving the crystal about an inch at a time to the side of the main chakra point while striking it can be very effective. For example, when working on my right hip, I first treated the root chakra area, then shifted the crystal about an inch to the right before striking it with the tuning fork. I could feel what seemed like electric energy moving through the nerves around my hip—slightly intense at first—but afterward, my hip felt noticeably better.
I also found that certain points on the body can feel unusually sensitive, uncomfortable, or “off” when the crystal passes over them. In my experience, these areas often indicate where deeper energetic work may be needed.
One of the most surprising things I noticed was how interconnected the body is. At times, working on my shoulder would relax my hip, or focusing on my right hip would release tension in my left elbow. This taught me that healing one area can create shifts in seemingly unrelated parts of the body.
I did not find clothing to interfere significantly with crystal or sound healing, although intuitively I feel that lighter, thinner clothing made from natural fibres works best
I do not recommend working directly on the third eye or crown if you are early in your spiritual journey and have not yet embodied a stable state of unconditional self-love. Directly activating these centres with amplified sound and crystal frequencies can be ungrounding or destabilising if you are not ready.
4. Begin the Sound Healing Process
Hold the crystal about 3 cm above the area you wish to work on. I usually begin with the 4096 Hz tuning fork, although I spend less time with this frequency and more time with the 4160 Hz. Through experimentation, you will naturally discover the striking angle and positioning that create the clearest and most resonant sound.
Strike the tuning fork on the crystal and bring it close to the crystal without touching it. Allow the sound to fully fade before striking again, as I have found the effect feels stronger when the vibration is allowed to naturally dissipate. Repeat this as many times as feels right.
Next, move the crystal closer to your body so it is hovering about 1 cm to a few millimetres above the skin, then repeat the process.
Finally, place the crystal directly against the skin (or over clothing) and continue striking the tuning fork, again allowing the sound to fade completely between strikes.
Throughout the process, remember to breathe slowly, deeply, and comfortably.
5. Release Stored Nervous System Tension
Repeat the same process using the 4160 Hz Angel Tuner. Personally, I find this frequency especially effective for releasing stored tension within the nervous system, which can support both physical and emotional healing. I continue until the area feels softer, calmer, or more relaxed.
Again, maintain slow and steady breathing throughout.
6. Observe the Body’s Response
Close your eyes and observe how your body responds as you work with the crystal and sound. Notice which areas relax, which sensations shift, or where tension begins to release.
The more you practise bodily awareness, the more sensitive you may become to the subtle energies of crystals, sound, nature, and your environment as a whole.
7. Recalibrate the Nervous System
Lastly, I use the 4225 Hz tuning fork to help recalibrate or “re-tune” the nervous system. I personally experience this frequency as uplifting, vibrant, and supportive for establishing a new energetic baseline.
I usually strike the crystal with this tuner around 5–10 times, or longer if it feels beneficial. Interestingly, there are times when the 4225 Hz feels even more supportive to me than the 4160 Hz, so I allow intuition and bodily response to guide the process.
8. Allow the Body to Integrate
Finish by going to bed feeling relaxed, or simply carry on with your day.
9. Allow Time for Integration
I recommend repeating this practice for a few days, then taking a break for several days afterward. I’m not entirely sure why, but the body seems to need an adjustment phase to integrate the changes.
Note: When the pain feels deep within, I occasionally place the flat side of the crystal point directly onto the area and strike it. This seems to draw out stagnant energy from where it is deeply held. However I approach this with a great deal of caution and never force energy to move, due to an experience I had a few years ago, which you can read about [here].
Why You May Feel Fatigue or Pain After Sound Healing
As you begin moving energy through the nervous system using amplified frequency, sensitive individuals may experience pain that feels similar to nerve pain.
If this arises while striking the crystal, simply focus on slow, calming exhales and continue gently until the sensation softens and dissolves.
At times, you may also notice this type of sensation appearing unexpectedly as you go about your day—perhaps in your toes, fingers, or other seemingly random areas of the body. If this happens, remember to breathe through it calmly. In my experience, these sensations are temporary. I’ve come to understand them as electrical signals (energy) that were previously stagnant in painful areas and are now moving through the nerves to return to circulation.
I also noticed that sometimes, after a treatment, there is a dull ache in the area. At first, I thought this was unusual, but it may be similar to what happens after a deep tissue massage—perhaps the body is releasing chemicals as it relaxes, leaving the area temporarily achy.
However, if the pain persists or does not ease with time and gentle breathing, it may indicate a different issue—such as nerve compression or another physical cause—and it’s important to seek medical advice from a doctor.
It is also important to understand that recalibrating the nervous system can be an energy-intensive process. The brain and body must gradually rewire themselves, learning to operate from an entirely different set of signals, responses, and hormonal patterns than they may have been conditioned to for years.
As the body shifts out of chronic stress and survival states, periods of fatigue can naturally arise. Depending on how deep or intense the recalibration and reprogramming process is, this fatigue may last for days, weeks, or even several months. This is often a sign that the body is redirecting energy toward repair, regulation, and restoration. So rest up and don’t push yourself.
How Crystal and Sound Healing May Work
I don’t claim to fully understand how this process works. My current understanding is that it may function in a way similar to acupuncture. High-frequency sound may amplify the crystal’s energy, or perhaps the crystal amplifies the sound frequency, allowing it to interact with the superficial fascia just beneath the skin and send calming, regulatory signals to the nervous system.
It’s also possible that the amplified sound alone activates the auricular branch of the vagus nerve found in the outer ear and ear canal, helping the nervous system to relax. Another possibility is that the amplified frequency acts as a catalyst or stimulus, encouraging stagnant energy within the nervous system to begin moving again.
These are simply my own working theories, rather than scientific certainty.
What I do know is that, when the nervous system is supported, the physical body can begin to release long-held tension—and as the physical body softens, the mental and emotional layers often follow.
How to Choose the Right Healing Crystal
Choosing a crystal is often less about logic and more about resonance.
