Truth About Green Flower Jasper

Green Flower Jasper is another example of a crystal on the market with a misleading name. It is neither a jasper nor a rhyolite, despite what is commonly repeated online. Commercial testing carried out by Rolf Stapel Van Stene revealed that the green areas are zoisite (likely coloured by trace vanadium, chromium or iron), the brown-red centres are corundum — the same mineral family as ruby and sapphire — and the brown tones are a type of feldspar known as microcline.

The floral patterns of this striking stone, incorrectly named Green Flower Jasper or Sakura Jasper, are theorised to have formed through a process known as symplectite formation —  these flowers may have originally been garnet crystals, which later transformed into corundum and microcline as temperature and chemistry shifted.

What appears to be a blossom is in fact a frozen moment of mineral growth and transformation, captured in stone.
