Locality: Madagascar

Carnelian and Red Agate are both chalcedony and pretty much the same thing. They seem to be categorised as one or the other depending on how much banding is present. Note, a lot of dyed agate are sold as Carnelian (be wary of very bright reds) or most are heat treated (this is an ancient practice used to enhance its colour for almost 1000 years). This Carnelian Palmstone seems unheated and best material come from this locality.
