What Are Genuine Super 7 & Auralite-23?

What Are Super 7 and Auralite-23?

I see a lot of amethyst online being sold as either Super 7 or Auralite-23, but I honestly believe the vast majority of sellers do not fully understand what these stones actually are. As a result, mislabelling is widespread. Because these stones are not cheap, I decided to dive back into the original book source and online resources to research the topic properly, so you can make an informed decision.

Super 7 (also known as Melody’s Stone)

Around five to six years ago, I purchased what was claimed to be an old-stock Super 7 from the original mine, at a very expensive price. It was sold to me by a woman who had studied directly with Melody herself—the person who coined the term Super Seven.

The seller explained that Super 7 was considered the most healing stone according to Melody, and that the original Brazilian mine is now underwater and can no longer be accessed.

Super 7 is said to contain these seven minerals (which is not true):
clear quartz, smoky quartz, amethyst, cacoxenite, goethite, lepidocrocite, and rutile—though not all seven need to be present for a stone to be considered Super 7.

My particular piece only had clear quartz, smoky quartz and amethyst, so basically I was duped into buying a very expensive smoky amethyst point, but this was one of the very first crystals I had purchased and I didn't know much at the time.

I was later fortunate enough to be gifted a book written by Melody "Love Is In The Earth (Supplement A)", which is very hard to find. In her section on Super 7, she includes a photo of the crystal, and interestingly, it looks essentially like an amethyst with red iron (hematite) inclusions.

(Photos of Super Seven from Love Is In The Earth by Melody. I don't think the photos are very good at showing what Super 7 are meant to look like. In the 2nd photo, you can see the close up of red hematite inclusions in the amethyst.)

If you’re familiar with Mindat—a resource I often use to learn more about minerals—you’ll quickly discover that cacoxenite has never been found growing with amethyst, nor lepidocrocite. These more “exotic” minerals often attributed to Super 7 are, in reality, forms of goethite and hematite (different types of iron inclusions).

Melody’s book does not specify whether Super 7 can only come from the one inaccessible Brazilian mine in Espirito do Santo. What she does describe is the energetic interpretation of the stone. According to her, Super 7 assists with seeing auras, connecting the physical and ethereal planes, telepathy, wellness, healing, Earth healing, spiritual ascension, and shifting one’s thoughts toward peace and harmony. It is also said to never need cleansing or energizing. It seems to me Super 7 generally carries the energies I typically feel in amethyst but more geared for exploring the psychic plane.

Anyway, it seems that many amethysts with hematite and other iron inclusions are being marketed as Super 7 as this is a more compelling name. Whether they truly carry the energetic profile Melody described is something that must be felt on an individual basis. I’ve personally found that even stones of the same type can carry quite different energies.

I do have a few red-capped amethysts in my store, and a couple of them genuinely seem to carry the general energetic qualities Melody described.

I’ve also seen beautiful amethysts with various iron inclusions that are being mislabelled online as “Brazilian Auralite.” These look nothing like Auralite-23, but are incredibly expensive, and I would consider the aesthetics of this to be the closest to Super 7 instead, due to the multiple colourful mineral inclusions that would make one think are cacoxenite, lepidocrocite and goethite. Here is one from my store.

Brazillian Auralite

("Brazillian Auralite" which to me is closest to a Super 7 morphologically.)

Auralite-23

Online, it’s common to see almost any amethyst with iron inclusions being sold as Auralite-23, but this is incorrect.

True Auralite-23 comes specifically from Thunder Bay, Canada. It is a type of chevron amethyst (banded amethyst with white quartz) with a distinct red hematite cap, and authentic pieces can be very expensive.

Auralite-23 was brought into prominence by Charles Klemens, who was deeply passionate about these stones and believed they transformed his life. There is an excellent webpage detailing his story and the history of Auralite-23, which I link to rather than reproducing their information, here.

I personally have not yet had the opportunity to experience a genuine Auralite-23, and I would truly love to feel the energy of one.

A Personal Perspective on Crystal Energy

Ultimately, I believe all crystals are special and carry unique energetic frequencies that can support growth, healing, and transformation—especially when we build a conscious relationship with them.

There is a lot of emphasis in the crystal world on certain stones being the most powerful, and while some crystals do carry very strong energies, the best crystal for you is the one that holds the frequency you personally need. In that sense, I believe Charles Klemens’ Auralite carried exactly the energy that was most aligned for him at that point in his life.

If you’d like help finding the right crystal for you, you can explore my store at crystal-meditation.com, where I describe each stone’s energetic frequency to help you connect with what you need most. You can also explore my other blog posts to learn how to work with crystals for healing and transformation.

I hope you make an informed decision next time you are purchasing a Super 7 or an Auralite!
