The Correct Use of Crystals

The Truth About Crystals

The one selenite sphere I unexpectedly held one day set me on a path to understand and learn what crystals are for. I briefly talk about this experience on my About Me page.

After my crystal journey began, life took me through an intense four-year spiritual journey. It was a journey of learning what it truly means to love myself, those around me, and the true nature of our one and only God—the Divine Creator.

Over the years, I explored many different forms of spirituality. As often happens when we explore spiritual teachings, I encountered ideas that initially sounded beautiful and true. But as my understanding of God deepened, I began to recognise that some of the teachings and teachers I had trusted were not what they appeared to be. There can be false teachings and false light—things that appear loving, enlightened and spiritual, but ultimately lead us away from the truth and from the true nature of God.

Despite this, one thing never changed: my intuition that crystals themselves were good.

I had certainly used them incorrectly. Out of ignorance, I followed teachings about crystals simply because other people had written or taught them. But eventually I began to separate the crystal itself from the teachings that had been placed around it. I began to see crystals as part of the beauty of God's creation.

***To note, my older blogs were written when I wasn't fully aware of this situation, and some older blogs and crystal descriptions would need changing.

What Does the Bible Say About Crystals and Stones?

The Christian community can sometimes hastily reject crystals as evil or inherently connected to witchcraft. Yet when we actually look at Scripture, we find something very different.

Precious stones appear repeatedly throughout the Bible in connection with God's presence, beauty, holiness and glory.

The breastplate of the High Priest in Exodus 28 was made with twelve precious stones, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel. In Exodus 24:10, the elders of Israel saw beneath God's feet what appeared to be a pavement of sapphire stone (or lapis lazuli).

In Ezekiel 1:26, God's throne is described as having the appearance of sapphire. In Revelation 4:3–6, God's throne is surrounded by imagery of jasper, sardine stone and emerald, with a sea before the throne “like unto crystal.” And in Revelation 21, the foundations of the New Jerusalem are decorated with all manner of precious stones.

There is also a particularly fascinating passage in Ezekiel 28:13, which says of the figure in Eden:

“Every precious stone was thy covering…”

The passage names numerous precious stones, including sapphire, emerald, jasper and others. While the immediate context addresses the king of Tyre, the description of a figure in Eden who is an “anointed cherub” has traditionally been understood by many Christians as referring to Satan before his fall.

Under this traditional interpretation, Satan was originally a highly exalted and favoured heavenly being, adorned with precious stones by God. The stones themselves were not evil. They were part of the beauty with which God had adorned him. The corruption came through the being who turned away from God—not through the stones.

We also find Zechariah 3:9, where God speaks of a stone placed before Joshua the High Priest:

“Upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts.”

Some translations understand this as a stone with seven facets. Again, the stone appears within a sacred context involving God, the High Priest and the removal of iniquity.

Nowhere does Scripture describe crystals or gemstones as inherently evil.

Do Crystals Have Power Separate From God?

No.

This is where I believe the spiritual industry has gone wrong—and something I had fallen into myself.

Crystals in and of themselves are not powerful. Their power does not exist separately from God. I believe they carry a reflection of the frequency of God—the purity, beauty and order of His creation—and are meant to be used as tools to come closer to Him and be reminders of Him.

They can remind us of the beauty of God, the beauty of His consciousness, and His love. To me, they are gifts from God and part of His creation that can help us turn our hearts and minds toward Him.

But we should not give crystals the power that belongs to God alone.

This distinction is important because it is here that I believe crystals have been misrepresented and misused within parts of the spiritual industry.

How Did Crystals Become Associated With Witchcraft, Sorcery and Evil?

Like many things created by God, crystals can be hijacked and used for purposes that lead people away from Him. We tend to lean on crystals for help when we should be leaning to God.

There are also interesting biblical examples of stones being used to hold, represent or carry something sacred. The twelve stones of the High Priest's breastplate represented the twelve tribes of Israel, while the two stone tablets given to Moses were literally inscribed by the finger of God with His commandments (Deuteronomy 9:10). And in Zechariah 3:9, God speaks of a stone upon which He Himself would engrave.

Though these passages do not explicitly teach that crystals store spiritual energy or frequency, they do show a recurring biblical pattern of stones being used to hold, represent, commemorate or communicate something from God.

Perhaps this is part of what has been distorted over time.: the idea that crystals themselves possess power independent from God, rather than understanding them as part of God's creation and allowing them to point us back toward Him.

The problem is not the stone.

The problem comes when we place our trust in the stone instead of the Creator.

My Own Understanding

Perhaps those who have been hurt by Christianity will be turned off by my use of the Bible and my mention of God. I understand that.

But after many years of exploring spirituality, I have come to understand God very differently from the way I once did. I have come to know God as love, truth, goodness and pure light—and I have also learned that not everything presented as “light” is necessarily true.

This is why I now approach crystals differently.

For those who feel drawn to crystals and want to use them as part of their spiritual journey, I encourage you to approach them with discernment. Don't give them power that belongs to God. Instead, allow their beauty to remind you of the Creator and use them to draw your heart toward truth, wisdom, and the love of God.

As working with crystals has done for me, may they bring you closer to untainted truth and the true light and wisdom of God.

I pray every day that the blood of Christ Jesus covers and purifies these crystals, that they are never used for deception or harm, and that anyone who encounters can gain access to the truth of God and are protected from false teachings and false light.

May these beautiful creations never become a substitute for God, but instead simply point us back toward Him.
