Collection: Tektites / Impactites

Tektites and impactites form during large meteorite or asteroid impacts, when extreme heat and pressure dramatically alter the surrounding rocks. Tektites are natural glasses formed mainly from melted terrestrial material that is ejected during an impact and rapidly cools as it falls back to Earth. Impactites is a broader term for rocks that have been melted, shocked, fractured or otherwise altered by the intense conditions of an impact.
