What is Tunellite?

Tunellite is a relatively rare borate mineral containing strontium, boron, oxygen, and water in its crystal structure. It forms in highly evaporative, boron-rich environments, particularly within arid lake basins associated with volcanic activity. As water evaporates, dissolved boron and other elements become concentrated and can crystallise into borate minerals such as tunellite. Its unusual chemistry and geological setting make it an uncommon mineral.
