Sugilite

This high-quality Sugilite features rich purple tones and is ideally shaped for a pendant. Sugilite is a rare mineral and its signature purple to violet hue comes primarily from manganese but also iron ions in its crystal structure. The dark, almost black colouration in this piece is braunite; another manganese rich mineral that has a reflective metallic shine in the sun.

Many stones sold as sugilite are often misidentified charoite. Genuine sugilite typically displays a more matte, solid and even colour, sometimes with a slightly grainy appearance. It also tends to feel a little denser and heavier compared to charoite of a similar size.
