What Is This Orbicular Jasper?

Although often marketed as Ocean Jasper, this material is more of a jasper-like chalcedony. Also Ocean Jasper is a trademarked name reserved for orbicular material mined from specific coastal deposits in Madagascar.

Similar orbicular material is also found in Indonesia, where it is collected from river deposits. Although less well known than Madagascar Ocean Jasper, high-quality Indonesian Orbicular Jasper is relatively uncommon and prized for its rich forest-green colours and contrasting orb patterns.

Due to the similarities between these materials and the difficulty of verifying older supply chains, the exact origin of this specimen remains uncertain.
