What is Lepidolite?

Lepidolite is a lithium-rich mica mineral known for its soft lilac, lavender, and violet tones. Unlike quartz, Lepidolite belongs to the mica group and naturally forms in thin, layered sheets, giving the material its pearly shimmer and delicate flaky texture.

The purple colour of Lepidolite is not caused by lithium itself, but is generally linked to manganese within the mineral structure. These manganese-related colour centres create the beautiful pink, purple, and lavender shades that make Lepidolite so visually distinctive.

Lepidolite most commonly forms in granite pegmatites, where it may occur alongside minerals such as quartz, feldspar, tourmaline, and spodumene. Dense material used for carvings, tumbles, and palm stones is often composed of fine-grained Lepidolite mixed with small amounts of other pegmatite minerals, giving each piece its own natural variation in colour, sparkle, and texture.
