Pink Amethyst Bear Slab (1)

What is Pink Amethyst?

Pink Amethyst is a trade name most commonly associated with pink quartz geodes from the El Choique Mine in Patagonia, Argentina. This material is considered by many collectors to be the most recognised form of “true” Pink Amethyst, with its colour linked to the same iron-related mechanisms within the quartz found in amethyst.

This “Pink Amethyst” from Madagascar is best understood as a pale pink-toned quartz or pale amethyst material rather than classic Argentine Pink Amethyst. Its soft blush colour, delicate crystalline texture, and plume-like patterns create a beautiful appearance reminiscent of both Pink Amethyst and Flower Agate.

The flower-like patterns are likely formed by variations in silica deposition during growth, creating soft plumes, clouds, and layered formations within the stone. While the trade name “Pink Amethyst” is still commonly used for this type of material, this Madagascan piece is best appreciated for its own gentle colouring, natural quartz composition, and distinctive agate-like patterning.
