What Is a Double Terminated Chlorite Quartz with Epidote?

A double-terminated quartz crystal forms when the crystal grows freely within an open cavity, allowing both ends to develop naturally. Most quartz crystals are attached to surrounding rock and therefore develop a single termination. Because this specimen grew suspended within an open pocket, both ends were able to form complete crystal points.

In many Hakkari specimens, the epidote occurs as countless tiny crystal terminations rather than a single smooth crystal. These miniature crystal faces reflect light independently, creating the distinctive sugary or "diamond dust" sparkle for which these specimens are known.

Eastern Turkey's Hakkari region is known for producing quartz crystals formed within alpine-type fissures and mineral-rich hydrothermal environments. These conditions allowed quartz, chlorite, and epidote to crystallise together, creating specimens with distinctive green inclusions and sparkling epidote terminations.

Many Hakkari crystals display unusually intricate growth features, including double terminations, barnacle formations, and dense clusters of micro-crystals that give the specimens their characteristic brilliance.
