Botryoidal malachite forms when countless microscopic crystals grow outward from a central point, creating smooth, bulbous surfaces that resemble clusters of grapes.

The vivid emerald and deep forest-green colours of malachite are caused by its high copper content. In fact, malachite contains around 57% copper by weight, making it one of the richest copper-bearing minerals.
