What is Botryoidal Hematite?

Botryoidal Hematite is a form of hematite (Fe₂O₃) that grows in smooth, rounded clusters with a bright metallic lustre. Large rounded formations are sometimes called Kidney Ore by collectors. Hematite contains about 70% iron and is an important iron ore. Despite its silvery appearance, it leaves a distinctive red-brown streak, which inspired its name from the Greek word haima, meaning “blood.”
