What is a Blue Tara Quartz?

Blue Tara Quartz is a trade name for quartz containing blue to dark blue fibrous tourmaline inclusions. These inclusions are most accurately described as belonging to the schorl-bearing tourmaline series, such as schorl–dravite or schorl–elbaite, rather than riebeckite, olenite, or blue amphibole. Schorl is an iron-rich member of the tourmaline group, and this iron-rich chemistry likely contributes to the dark blue to blue-black appearance of the inclusions within the quartz.
