Ruby is one of the hardest minerals on Earth with a Mohs hardness of 9. Due to their exceptional hardness, rubies are challenging to tumble smoothly — making this well-polished stone with its deep, saturated colour especially appealing. Its rich colour is caused by trace amounts of chromium, which can also make the crystal fluoresce a vivid red under ultraviolet light.
