Part 5: What is Crystal Energy?

Throughout this series, I have shared my journey with crystals, what Scripture says about stones, the spiritual risks I came to recognise, and how I now choose to engage with crystals while keeping God at the centre.

But there is one question I haven't fully addressed:

What about crystal energy?

This is a difficult subject for me because I have always been able to physically sense something from certain stones. In fact, this sensitivity was one of the reasons I started my crystal store in the first place.

I could hold different crystals and notice different sensations. Some felt calming, others energising, some were joyful, some felt even protective.

For many years, I simply accepted these experiences as evidence of what crystals could do.

But as my relationship with God deepened, I began asking a different question:

What exactly was I sensing?

A Difficult Prayer

I prayed about this a lot.

I even asked God to take away my sensitivity if it was simply a form of deception.

That was a difficult prayer because this sensitivity had been part of my life for so long. I had built a great deal of my understanding around it.

But I wanted truth more than I wanted to hold onto my previous beliefs.

After a week or two of praying, I came to a realisation that changed the way I understood crystals.

The problem wasn't necessarily that I could perceive something in them, the problem was what I believed that something meant.

What Are We Actually Experiencing?

Until recently, I had been looking to crystals themselves to give me qualities such as peace, wisdom, strength, healing or protection.

There is an important distinction I want to make here.

I don't believe crystals were ever designed to give us qualities such as peace, wisdom, strength or love.

Rather, throughout my years of working with them, I have experienced different crystals as having their own distinct spiritual or energetic “personalities.” Each stone seems to have its own character or quality, and for some reason, I am able to physically sense those differences.

Why this is, I honestly don't know.

It remains a mystery to me.

I still experience these sensations, but I no longer automatically interpret them as something the crystal is giving me or something I need to obtain from it. They are simply characteristics that I seem to perceive in the stone itself.

This has also left me with another unanswered question.

I believe crystals can, in some circumstances, open a door to the spiritual realm. Yet the “personality” of the crystal doesn't seem to determine what kind of door is being opened. The two experiences seem to be separate.

Why that is, I don't know either.

And I think it is important to be honest about that.

There are things I have experienced that I cannot fully explain, and I don't want to pretend that I have all the answers.

What I do know is that my understanding of these experiences has changed.

I no longer see the qualities I perceive in a crystal as something the crystal was designed to give me. Instead, I see them as part of the mystery of creation—something I can perceive, but ultimately don't fully understand.

And that brings me back to the question that has become much more important to me:

“What qualities of God and His Kingdom is this crystal reminding me to cultivate in my own life?”

The crystal isn't necessarily giving me that quality.

It may simply be reminding me of it.

And that distinction allows me to appreciate what I experience without making the crystal itself the source.

Why I Am Changing My Crystal Descriptions

This change in understanding is also why I am changing the way I describe the crystals in my store.

Crystal descriptions often focus on what a stone is supposed to do—protect, heal, manifest, attract abundance, enhance intuition and so on.

That was once part of how I understood crystals too and how I wrote my descriptions. I spent a lot of time doing this.

But I no longer want my descriptions to encourage people to place their trust in the crystal itself.

Instead of saying a crystal gives you peace, I may describe it as something that reminds you of peace.

Instead of presenting a crystal as something that manifests an outcome, I can describe the qualities, symbolism or beauty of God's Kingdom it brings to mind.

It may seem like a small change in wording, but for me it represents a much bigger change in belief.

Where I Stand Now

I still love crystals.

I still find them beautiful and fascinating, and I still notice sensations when working with some of them.

What has changed is how I understand those experiences.

I no longer need a crystal to have independent spiritual power for it to be meaningful to me.

I can appreciate the creation without placing my trust in the creation.

I can let a crystal remind me of peace, beauty, wisdom, strength or love—and then turn my attention towards God, rather than towards the stone itself.

And that understanding has changed everything about the way I now work with crystals.

What a journey!!!

I hope you enjoyed the 5 Part blog series which navigated faith in God and crystals. It required a lot of discernment, prayer, and experimentation.

Today, I have recovered completely from my chronic pain and depression. I have also been liberated from the deep resentment, anger, and enormous burden of unforgiveness that I had unknowingly carried in my heart for all those years. I sincerely hope this for others not through crystals, but through God and Jesus.
